Looking for help identifying this very old, sturdy and lightweight rocker. It's been repaired in a number of places but the overall appearance to me says late 1700s. I'm not sure if I should clean it with mild soap and water, or Murphy's Oil Soap or do nothing to it at all. Most joints are mortised and the only screws are in the vertical pieces under the seat that attach to the horizontal bar. And it's missing a horizontal bar in the front. The seat is rather low to the ground and the caning is in excellent condition although it's got the dirt from Years Gone by it is solid. Am I on the right track with the date of this chair? Can anyone offer any additional information? Thank you
I’d call it an arrow back rocker.
The paint details, construction and style are indicative of the late 19th century.
