I purchased this lovely little 1930’s greyhound brooch this year to add to my vintage dog pin collection. He is backed with 18 k gold, and has a gold and diamond collar. It was love at first sight (sight hound… get it? ok bad joke! )
Given my love of greyhounds and my passion for vintage dog pins, I just knew he needed to come & live in my kennel of pups! I’m not exactly certain what he is made of, Thoughts anyone? :)

I think it is carved from smoked quartz, or onyx, frosted.
I have a French bulldog's head hatpin with pearls collar similarly carved.

Love this, as soon as I saw this I though of jscott - he collects the rabbits and cast iron figures, the detail in this is wonderful.

Thanks much for chiming in and offering suggestions. He hasn't yet arrived, so unfortunately I'm not certain yet. I purchased him via a seller in Washington, and he is coming shortly.
I tend to agree with Kyratango, based on purchase price and, as Racerfor4 so eloquently said... "His bling!" Probably quartz or onyx. Im leaning towards onyx.
BTW: KyraTango, your bulldog is simply stunning! Thanks so much for sharing his photo. I agree my greyhound most probably is of the same quality and period.
