Not a new addition, this Art Nouveau ceramic vase was originally one of my late mother's op shop finds.
Her buying habits were pretty random to say the least - but I hung onto this piece because I think it sits nicely with glass of the same period.
It measures 15.5 cm tall, & is only marked with an impressed number - 11448 on the base, no maker's name. I think it is probably from Germany or Bohemia. The floral decoration depicts sweet peas, I think.
Last photo shows some violets in my garden, one of my favourite flowers & one especially beloved in the Victorian era.
Very pretty
Beautiful vase with lovely bell shaped flowers & nice violets too
The body shape and handles definitely seem Euro.
That deep green ground makes thes pretty flowers pop.
Your mum found a good one and I’m happy you kept it!
Many thanks, NaVi8274!
Thanks also, Jenni!
Much appreciated Karen! Mum's taste could be pretty hit & miss, but this one was bang on for me, I love it!
nice recuerdos (loving memories)
Beautiful! Still loving your combination of items and nature:)
Very pretty. The violets are Viola adunca - Dog Violet. not sure how it got that name but a favorite of mine.
Lovely sentiments indeed, kivatinitz!
Many thanks, vintagelamp, I promise to keep the nature coming, we are heading into Spring soon & there's plenty more flowers on offer...
Thanks also, ho2cultcha!
I think I remember dog violets being mentioned in one of my favourite childhood story books, Mister Dog! He belonged to himself, & that concept always appealed to me too. I was lucky that my house came with plenty of existing violets & I've added a few more varieties over the last three years. These ones smell so nice & are happily seeding all over the place!
