This is a quarter plate ambrotype of two drummers standing with a third friend standing by.
The man on the left is wearing a military bummers cap, while the other two wear civilian style hats. Additionally, the man in the center appears to be wearing a mounted troops shell jacket-- brass collar buttons are visible on the left.
The drums are large military style drums. I really like the brass tack decoration on the one on the left.
I am not sure of the specifics of the photograph-- most likely some sort of recruiting event with new recruits or just "drumming up" new recruits.
My photos do not copy or use in any form without permission.
Thanks much gate and fort!

Great military drummers ambrotype Scottvez
Very interesting. I went looking for ‘bummer’s cap’ !!!
Thanks vetraio-- the "s" at the end wasn't intended, but somewhat appropriate based on appearance (and some era soldier comments)!
They are known as bummer caps-- specifically called the "forage cap" in regulations. Similar to a kepi, but usually taller and the top often slopes forward.
