    1950s Speedex Wire Strippers

Years ago after my father passed I found these Speedex Wire Strippers. A year or so later I found the original box and reunited the 2 items. The box actually had some glass syringes and needles stored in it, that I showed in my other post.

The paperwork is dated 1955 and shows all the different models that were available at the time.

This model is No. 766-1 and is listed at $8.25. These are the fully automatic Strippers. You put the appropriate size wire in the jaws, (for this model 10, 12 ,14, 16, 18, 20, 22), squeeze the handle and it strips the insulation off.

A well built tool that still functions perfectly. Dad kept these in his special toolbox that was used for Field Day. That was an event where local Ham Radio operators got together in a field with campers, tents and motor homes, then assembled temporary antennas. They would have a contest to see how many contacts they could acquire with their mobile setups. Kind of a fun practice to prepare for a real emergency.

I have a few 'lesser' pair of strippers similar to this, mine no doubt being cheaper knockoffs of the original. Even those tend to work alright, especially if one is repeatedly stripping the same gauge/size of wire. I bet these are a dream to work with in comparison...???!! ;-) :-) :-)

This was the ONLY type of wire stripper permitted when I did the practical part of my trade test as an electrician.

Onedtent the two master electricians that taught me told me they would send a size 11 boot up my . ZXSAW if they saw me striping with anything but a knife or utility blade,.or hand stripper to shave the protection coating off ..they did not want to see the ring around the wire from cutters causing it to be weak ...@ the end of day one told me lest go .next door to the new house I wired and pulled two boxes apart just to see if I was following his instructions ...lol glad I did...
