      If I may ask, how did you come to know this is ivory? To me looking at the blown up/enlarged picture it looks like Tagua nut. Tagua is also called vegetable ivory because it is the closest thing to actual ivory there is in the world.

      i think fhrjr2 is correct - tagua nut. it has the right shape/size.

      Regardless of material it is a very nice little treasure. I carve and turn Tagua so have some on hand. It is actually pure white when turned or carved but age gives it a yellowish patina. The nut has a fairly dark brown husk that covers the white after the nut matures. Most of mine are brown with some white showing through. Fun little things to carve but hard as heck.
