Another wonderful piece from Shangri-la - Bob Montague and Freek Pals. i'm never disappointed and always surprised at the quality of the pieces i get from them! I thought this was just a regular dinner plate, but as you can see it's about 12.5 inches in diameter. It stands a little over 2 inches high, so it's like a big, wide bowl. I just love the colors popular in Thailand! Just amazing and with the thick, goopy Qianlong glazes!

I said platter, but meant to say 'charger'. i think that's correct?

Awesome and so colorful, beautiful glaze & gorgeous central flower (peony, chrysanthemum?). Love it!

actually this is an extremely well charger far better than the other two
look at the sliding of the colours on the right mid border in the purper flower, very nice slide out of the colour, which actually got enhanced by means of the darkening of the curvilinear part

to me this piece tends to jiaqing , the reapparance in the alleged ZHU( bamboo )in the red garlands not blue ! it tends to reintroducing the homophone meaning of ZHU which means Hao Yuànwàng, something like i wish you all the best

      very well done Pete

thank you apostata and Newfld! i don't quite understand what makes it Jiaqing - 'slide out of color'?

this ought to be an low value plate ( the other 2 are) but this is better
its hard to date , normally qianlong is quite easy but this is export porcelain , and i think you are right it is probably for Thailand

Actually we are committed to 1870-1820 so late mid qianlong to late Jiaging, the glazing is so heavy and and vibrant , so it it bencharong period mentioned

but the ZHU ( bamboo ) garlands leads to an sort of theoratical shut out , there are almost late no mid late Qianlong pieces this way , and if there are they are mostly blue

rather well charger ( among the Bencharong pieces ) low of value compared to other type of pieces

Thank you for that explanation. i can understand it better. i'm shocked that Bencharong chargers/plates - esp. early Bencharong - are of low value. i think the use of color is so interesting and beautiful in these pieces. I'm surprised that we haven't seen a similar increase in value as are the later Nyonya Straits pieces.

i don,t know Pete , i buy it when it got blacklighted, and when the vividness of the design is right ( lets say the Yongzheng glare ) and if the inclination of the charger or bowl is congruent, there is no accounting for taste , no sweat

this is the first time i've heard of the 'Yongzheng glare'. i looked it up and it's interesting.
