My latest acquisition; an adapter for use on Edison Disc phonographs, likely made in the late teens or mid 20s. This little gadget allows an Edison Disc owner to play the latest 78 Fox-trots.
Edison Discs were recorded using the hill and dale method, the sound "bumps" go up and down. 78s were recorded laterally, the sound is on the groove wall. Never played an Edison Disc using a needle, you will ruin the Disc. And playing a 78 using an Edison reproducer will ruin the stylus.
Did someone invent that recently? It's brilliant.
Oh wait - I see it was in the 1920's. It looks so new.
Thanks. I did have to remove some material to fit it in the tone arm, other than that, the finish is original.
Oh Yes! With a fixed stylus..Edison made discs until 1936, the same year, The "Wizard From Menlo Park" passed away.

Until 1929. Interestingly, Edison continued to make cylinders along side Disc production.
