This 2" goldtone brooch with pendant loop shows the front of a 1970s Volkswagen Beetle or "bug," with red & black enamel, white rhinestone windshield wipers and headlights, & MACKIE license plate. Made by celebrity fashion designer Bob Mackie ca 1990s
Happy trails to all CW Labor Day weekend travelers, stay safe & drive wisely :)
Wish you the best this weekend Jenni. I could see Mary wearing one of these on her denim jacket !~
Very unusual little brooch, and though they are popular little cars it’s unusual you see this full on or driving towards you. I associate these cars with all things summery and holidays so it’s bring me lots of cheer and memories again but...the back is an unusual design, it’s got a ring on it? Am I correct in seeing that?!
Really fab! Lifts my spirits just to look at it!
this makes me want to wear more jewelry!!
Too cute!
Thank you everyone for the VW car love

Thank you so much dear Phil for your wonderful holiday weekend wishes, and for once I can send them back to you as I see our Labor/Labour Day weekends in US and Canada coincide! Kick back & relax my friend, that's all we are doing - exulting in the cooler weather that just arrived on early autumn cue, after a long hot NY summer
Yes Lauren isn't this unusual, particularly from Bob Mackie who mostly made flashy ladies clothing & jewelry, but here it seems he had a sense of humor! The VW "bug" was a popular car in the late 60s into 70s here in the US and because it was relatively cheap, all types of people bought it from counter-culture "hippies" to my ordinary working class father (and it was very economical on gas). I see it is back today & styled better, probably still a good choice for lo mileage. Yep that is a ring, a golden loop so you could also wear it on a chain as a necklace. Thank you for your super comment!
Thanks Searching for your great praise, it is quite an extraordinary brooch and was perfect for my Labor Day post, when I usually try to find something transportation related being this is traditionally one of our most road-traveled holidays
vintagelamp I'm so glad you got a lift from seeing this VW throwback, isn't it cool how Mackie gave it rhinestone headlights and wipers, plus put his name on the license plate! Thanks for your awesome comment
Thank you ho2 for your most excellent comment, I think this auto would definitely look fine on either a man or woman's jacket, it's quite cool! You guys always look great in jewelry - one of my fave singers Tom Jones always wore gorgeous huge cross necklaces & fancy rings onstage, saw his show several times
Thanks so much Karen for your fab praise, I am really glad you saw the cute factor in this car, it is 'bright & just right' for this holiday weekend!
A "pendant loop" -- *that's* what its called and what its for??!!! THANK YOU for that if nothing else, I have a brooch or two (nowhere near as fun as yours) that have that, and I've not known what it was supposed to be?? :-) :-) :-) :-) :-)
With grateful appreciation for the love

Thanks AO for your super comment, glad you liked this car and that I was able to help about the loop :) The jewelry that has it can be worn with a chain around the neck, or even to clip to a belt or something else - maybe even to use as a key fob (or how about on a pet collar lol) That's the great thing about jewelry with a convertible option, you're not stuck with just pinning it on. You've got some great stuff, now you can have fun with it!
What a cute VW Beetle piece!
Glad you liked this car brooch MrsT and thank you for your nice comment
Thank you Penny for the love, it is very kind of you and I'm most grateful for your thoughtful consideration
Many thanks Pascale for the love, it is so very nice of you & always most gratefully appreciated. Glad you saw the fun in this little car :)
love it fun and cool...
Thanks Rocky & raven for the love, very pleased that you enjoyed this fun VW Beetle car piece, Bob Mackie would always surprise with his far out designs
Rocky thank you for your great comment & getting a smile from this vintage VW 'bug' car, they were all the rage in the 60s-70s and it amuses me to see how they reissued them today in slightly more modern style
