I have to admit that I bought this piece for its gorgeous mount, which happily looks wonderful with the clear turquoise blue glass vase. The exquisitely detailed bees caught my attention immediately. This mount is a perfect example of Aesthetic period design, and dates to about 1800. The glass was made in Bohemia and is enameled with a white poppy or rose. The mount is silver in color, and the legs represent sticks of bamboo; it shows a Far Eastern influence as well as a prominent use of nature (the bees) - both tenants of Aesthetic period design. The vase with mount measure just under 9" (22.8cm) tall.
Super duper!..love that mount!
Thank you, inky! I had a feeling you would - the bees!! :)
Yup!..the bees…:-))
Magnificent - just magnificent.
The glass is nice but the frame is amazing.
Absolutely stunning! Love the bees & bamboo...the Aesthetic Movement is a favourite style of mine, too! We are lucky to have an Aesthetic coffee table which was saved from being thrown away years ago...& I only found out about it from a book I found last year!
Gillian, thank you very much!
BHIFOS, I agree completely!
Marin, I would love to see a picture of your table! Thank goodness you were able to rescue it. Based on what I have seen of some of your collections, I know you have a very good eye for design, so you were probably drawn to it. Thanks for your kind comments on my vase!
que belleza!!!! indeed adore bees and this color
Thanks so much kivatinitz, I love the bees and color, too! :)
A stunning piece ! I have see past attempts to pair this frame with other, not so correct glass, unfortunately. This looks to be original to me, extremely rare and awesome! Did I say, this is what I collect? Art glass in Victorian silver plate frames ?? KUDOS!
Hi slpprs, it is great to know that you have seen this mount before! Yes, I agree that the glass definitely feels like it is original to the mount. It fits perfectly, and the style is correct for the period. I am sure you have a wonderful collection; I am going to have to take a look at your posts on CW. Thanks! :)
Hilariously good, the bees are priceless.
Thanks so much Angus! :)
Such a wonderful piece!
Thank you very much, Mrstyndall!
