HITACHI 8-track tape player

I came across this thing again the other day when looking for something else -- I *knew* I still had (at least) one around someplace?!!

Leaving a pic open here because the quick pics I took turned out not to have a very good one of the front of the unit, but it is a HITACHI model D-128 stereo player-only deck. There also used to be a little plastic indicator bezel over the four 'holes' showing on its front, those are the little lights that'd show which of the tracks was playing at any given moment.

I'm not really sure when or where this one came into my collections, but don't believe it was one of the several (probably) I actually owned and used 'back in the day' when 8-track tapes were popular. I also don't know if this one *works* or not, and am also (surprisingly?!) unsure whether I now have any 8-track *tapes* still laying around in a box somewhere in order to test it...?
