This is one of the smaller bits of my current railroad signal equipment collection. Made by the WESTERN RAIL ROAD SUPPLY Co. and bearing their rectangular logo, it is a cover for the electrical wiring terminal compartment that exists in the hardware between sets of red flashing lights on a pole at a grade crossing.

Being made of cast iron with remains of a (likely asbestos!) rope gasket on its backside, it attaches to the 'arms' assembly with the loop and hook on either side. This one is an "older example being made of iron, its 'newer' brethren are much the same but made of aluminum instead.

Shown here hanging on my basement wall, I actually have the rest of the mounting arms/manifold assembly this is a part of down there too, as well as two pair of vintage crossing lights, mechanical crossing bell(s), and several other miscellaneous old WRRS parts and things -- my goal is to assemble and erect a RxR crossing light setup out on my patio as soon as I acquire the actual post and base to bolt it all together to. (perhaps very soon, finally, if the stars stay aligned) Might end up being fun to amaze and bewilder (or annoy and confuse?) my neighbors with...those bells are LOUD, and there isn't an actual live RxR crossing within a few miles of here...? <LOLOL>
