My friend brought me this wooden box. She thought it was a Japanese sewing box. My research shows similar boxes as Dansu, Tansu and the sewing box is Haribako. Your comments and expertise are appreciated while we try to discover what this box is. The lid used to be attached and would fold up and over the stationary metal handle. There are two open compartments in the top. There are two sliding drawers on the bottom that can be pushed open from holes in the back or pulled out with the tiny wooden nobs. This is all wood with dove tail sides. The drawers are not dove tail. but fit nicely. The drawers have tiny wooden pulls. This measures about 6 inches wide, 10 inches tall and 12 inches deep. I have added a close up of the joints. 10/2/2021 I found similar on line calling out jewelry box.
What are the measurements?
Gillian I have included dimensions in description.
Pictures are way to dark preventing seeing the joints well or at all. The two I can see are not dovetails from what I see they are way over sized finger joints.
Thank you!
fhrjr2 I have added a lightened close up of the joints, they may be finger joints or they may have a slight angle for dove tail. Not sure, that is why I am asking.
