Just one frontal motif on this one, plus gilded bun feet, rim and neck band, A nice detail is the band of tiny leaves just below the rim. The Josephinenhütte mark is very worn, as you can see, and I doubted I'd get even this.

That lily is gorgeous, stamens, speckles, curled petals. Harrach obviously had very talented artists.

And a lot of variety in their designs too.

A tiger lily! I remember these from the garden of my childhood home. There was a big clump of them growing next to the tap that fed the garden hose. I recall hearing that tiger lilies apparently fell victim to some sort of plant disease which is perhaps why I never see them any more.
The aqua blue glass is the perfect backdrop for vibrant orange flowers. And the rounded feet are just adorable. A class act all round!

The style and quality of Harrach painted vases beat everything else.

A nice memory for you, Marin, and it seems to me that so many of us have quirky childhood memories.

Ivonne, I couldn't really disagree with you on that.

As you know, I love these ball footed pieces. I had a similar vase, also with a red flower that I also thought was Harrach. Later I came across a similar vase that was marked with the small shield mark of Josephinenhutte , so now I always keep them in mind as a possible maker, too. You have a lovely example; I have not seen a painted rim like that before.

I'm really interested in this Michelle. I've heard of the co. but can't remember seeing any of their production. I've not seen a rim painted like this either, but as it reflected the foliage below it didn't seem much of a stretch.

Hi Peggy, I just sent you an email with JH examples showing their mark, too. I think you will see how similar they are to your vase! :)

Hi Michelle, I have enjoyed poring over the JH examples. I'd be happy to have examples of their production on my shelves. The enamelling is exquisite. Thank you. I'll be in touch.

Thank you Michelle, With a strong light and a magnifying glass the faint blue smudges on the base of the vase turned out to be the Crown and Coat of Arms of Josephinenhütte. Well I never!

Oh, that is terrific!! You have a marked piece! That is great news. I think the marks have worn away on a lot of their pieces, so people just assume anything that is nicely enameled is Harrach, but Josephinenhutte made amazingly high quality pieces too. I actually had a rare Art Deco piece by them just arrive this afternoon - I'll share it here once I can get it photographed. Congrats again Peggy! :)
