This is one of a pair of my newest neon tube transformers in the collection (a few others already shown) recovered from a sign originally built ~15yrs ago if that. It was made by LECIP CORPORATION, and produces 15KVAC at 30mA from 120VAC, with built in ground-fault protection and monitoring capability. Consider those voltage levels as comparable to the water coming out of a garden hose filling a pressure washer tank (low pressure, high volume) vs. the water that comes out of that machine's nozzle (high pressure, low volume) to get the idea that OH H*LL YES, IT'LL HURT (and/or KILL) if you get across it the wrong way...I think that 15K is also somewhat more than the usual heart defibrillator machine... <eeek>
The line voltage goes in to the pair of terminal bolts (+ ground) together on one end, the high voltage comes out of the individual posts (with much larger ceramic insulators) on each end. Note also the stubs of wire on those big output posts -- it is actually only #16 or 18 wire gauge (stranded) with a *much* thicker layer of insulation than the likely #12 solid that hooks it to line current.
