18th century Chinese stone sculpture

Would like opinions on the intended purpose of this piece. Much too large to be a netsuke, but maybe not. Purchased at Abell's in 1990. Described as 18th C. Chinese on the receipt. Brown/ochre jade. Crab and a fish (carp?). Large curved holes carved entirely through, front to back and side to side. Not selling, just very interested in function.
