Johann Baptist Homann (*1664 - †1724)
This antique hand coloured map of East Prussia by Johann Baptist Homann, shows the coast of the Baltic Sea. On top of the map, an impressive title cartouche with Frederick I, the first Prussian king and many other wonderful details and the date of his coronation on 18 January 1701.
“Regnum Borussiae gloriosis auspicijs Seerenissimi et Potentissimi Princip Friderici III. Primi Borussiae Regis March. et Elect. Brandenburg. inauguratum die 18 Jan. A. 1701.“
Johann Baptist Homann was born 1664 in Oberkammlach and founded his workshop in Nuremberg, Germany anno 1702. The Homann publishing house became the most important map and atlas producer in Germany at that time. Homann became a member of the Academy of Science in Berlin, right after he published his first atlas in 1707.
