We came across this very old sewing box. We've had it for awhile. It is wooden with sewing decor encrusted on the exterior. There is what appears to be a dog image on a metal plate on the front. Does anybody know about this piece?

Hello, this is a piece of Folk Art, and it probably dates from the 1930s to 50s. The brass metal dog piece dates from the 30's, maybe a belt buckle. You might want to modify the category as this piece really would not be considered Arts and Crafts, technically speaking it is a piece of American Folk Art.
You can compare it to <A Herf="http://www.bonanza.com/listings/Fantastic-Folk-Art-Tramp-Art-Memory-Box/39601105">This</A> piece, which also uses the term Tramp Art or Outsider Art to describe it.
Yours is much nicer, and would probably sell for twice as much, or more under the right circumstances.
