"NYC TRANSIT CAR SWITCHING LIGHT".

That's what a small handwritten tag on its top (?) says anyway. I got it from a fellow collector a few years ago who likewise didn't really know whether that label is accurate or not...but it is certainly a curiosity no matter what it is, and the price was right, so of course I *had* to have it...??? <LOL>

It is rather heavily built (like RxR stuff often is) but has no markings whatsoever on it. (beyond the glass lens maker's name, that is) The solid cast (brass?) handle turns and latches to four different positions, placing its red, yellow, and green lens or nothing at all between the light bulb and round 'frame' on its front (?) where it must have fastened to or in something else to illuminate it. The handle has corresponding colored 'discs' that could indicate its position. (the swag-lamp chain isn't original of course, nor the eyebolt it attaches to)

Does anybody here have any other thoughts about it, to confirm *or* deny what that little taped on label says???
