Have now acquired a Vigzol oil can. From what I can see is that the can will have been blue and not the usual orange which I have not seen anywhere. Also has a pop riveted badge which says (THIS EQUIPMENT IS THE PROPERTY OF THE VIGZOL OIL COMPANY LIMITED) and I have not seen this badge before. Other characteristics are the lid is a steel screw in lid as opposed to screw on type, the can must be galvanised as there is no rust and there is a chain connected to the rear which I presume will of been to fix to somthing possibly while in transit. I'm wondering if this oil can was blue as it was a refillable returnable can or my other thought that the can may have belonged to vigzol but the oil was amoco during there merged period. If anyone has more information I'd be able to rest......

I recall seeing blue oil cans in garages during the 50's but they were for oil changes in the garage not for customers. Customers had to buy a glass bottle which was filled out of a 55 gallon barrel or buy a quart can of oil off the rack out beside the gas pump. The glass bottle was cheaper but short lived as the cans took over. Like a fool I threw out full cans in like new condition a few years ago. I didn't know they were collectable when I did it. Now I check everything before I toss it.

Would this have been a consumer-returnable container for motor oil?? I'm no expert of course, but to me it looks more like those cans used by technicians/inspectors as a 'certified quantity' measure (?) when calibrating gas pumps. (and it just looks too overdone to have been intended for consumer use??) A very cool item no matter what?!! :-) :-) :-)
