This is an item that belongs to a friend. It was a gift from his Grandfater to his Grandmother when they were married. It's history includes tales of George Washington's stable hand, "Jocko Graves", who froze to death holding a lantern on the banks of the Deleware. When Washington returnd to find him dead, he was so moved by his dedication to duty that he erected a statue to honor him. Later, during and after the civa war, these statues were perported to be direction markers for fleeing slaves towards underground railroad locations. This one has the original paint and very little rust due to the fact that it had been kept in-doors for the last 70-80 yars. It's very cool!
It would be nice to have a value on this statue. I've been given estimates anywhere from $2500.00 to $6000.00. The later beig from a large auction house in Chicago, IL. Thanks in advance for your help! - Mike P.
