A beautiful gold (?) and perhaps white sapphire brooch, dating back to the Victorian era. This Victorian, 19th century piece is lovely and ornate. The pin is intricately designed with scrolls of ribbon and a flower in the center with clear stones. My research has shown they may be white sapphires but I don't know for sure. It is fringed with 2 cascading articulated chains and 5 articulated tassels unfortunately 2 are missing. The back has a glass locket that you would place a lock of your loved ones hair. It is NOT stamped anywhere that I can see. I am not sure if is gold plated or has gold content but similar mourning jewelry is sometimes stamped 9k, 14k, 15k or 18k but I am not sure that it is indeed gold. This is a very fine quality example of Victorian mourning or memorial jewelry.
