Clock given as wedding to my parents in 1930s. It is thought to have been made by Ansonia Clock Co in New York around 1900.
Clock is a type of heavy stone base. Would be grateful for any information re this clock which will remain in our family.

      Hello Jillroy!

      Welcome to Collectors Weekly: Clocks.

Your heirloom Ansonia Clock is a model called the "El Pan" (No. 1055). It is from around circa 1901. This model originally listed for $18.60. That would be the equivalent of around $60o in 2021. With inflation going the way it has, that may soon be more! Your clock has an 8-day, half-hour Gong Strike movement with a 5-inch double porcelain enamel dial featuring a premium visible escapement (also known as a "Brocot" Escapement). The case is made of Marble. Just a word of caution, ALWAYS carry the clock with your fingers curled under the base. If you carry it by the top ledge, the bottom may pull lose and drop to the floor. :( Also, if you plan to operate the clock, think about having a good clock shop take a look at it first. These antique mechanical clocks are machines and like any machine with many moving parts, they require periodic maintenance/repair.

I hope that solves your mystery. If so, please indicate "Mystery Solved" in your listing. If not, please let us know what other questions you may have.

Thanks for sharing your family heirloom with us. It appears to have aged gracefully and must have been well taken care of.

      Regards,

      Bruce
