These unique tables came out of the most interesting nightclub of the 1970’s called the Castaway Lounge. When you walked in the door this was a watch your back pool stick over the head dive bar until you got to the VIP section in back that made studio 54 look pedestrian debauchery and all..There was 2 of those huge 10 foot long gold crushed velvet Johnny Holmes sofas with several Baker chairs along with the pair of cellarettes I posted here last year with 5 of these cantilever tables designed by Leon Rosen for Pace furniture. These are made from 11 gauge steel with 2 half moon arches that gives these extra strength along with the illusion of floating glass tops.I have 2 of the 5 tables that had a bright gold chrome finish at one time.I would have gotten the other 3 but 1 had a bullet hole and another had a dent that looks like someone’s head must have accidentally ran in to it.Some guys in Haz Mat suits hauled off the 3rd one that went to the center for disease control. Thanks for looking.

What fabulous deco style tables, and such a colorful history! The Castaway must have been a happening place back in the day :)

Now that is some interesting history! Nothing dry or boring about this story. ;^D

A very nice catch you made. I remember especially the late 70's when they started to make a lot of glass coffee tables I walked into Art Shoppe an avant-garde store if there ever was one, had coffee tables on the second floor made of lucite and glass nothing less than 2000 back then in early 1982 just for 1 piece. Whicle I was deciding on a purchase I couldn't get over how the lowly coffee table had escalated into the stratosphere in importance. I remember how those coffee table sets made the deal or broke it when making deals of highest importance in your living room. You strove for the best, or nothing ! I think I know what you mean here as you got a set where and when it all started and means the world when you aquired a piece of history which is so hard to get. You captured a moment of time that you have to be there to grasp the whole meaning in a fleeting world !~
