This pair have been on my short list of favorite cocktail glassware since they were found (maybe 15yrs ago?) amongst a typical shelf-ful of assorted random kitchen glass at a thrift store. I've always thought they seemed a little bit older than the stuff usually found on shelves like that (even 15yrs ago) maybe from the 1970's or so, but I have no actual idea.
The pair are conventionally sized snifters, with thin clear glass bowls that sit atop solid deep orange colored frosted glass conical stems with a layered scallopy surface pattern. The GRAND MARNIER name in their distinctive script logo is featured (in white) on each one.
GRAND MARNIER, for those that don't know offhand, is a famous French cordial made by "blending fine cognacs and bitter orange liqueur, since 1880". (from their website which requires age verification: www.grandmarnier.com ) It is strong in alcohol content and even stronger in its intense orange flavor, truly a beverage that deserves being enjoyed sip by sip from a snifter (while relaxing in a large leather upholstered chair, after dinner?) so one can also enjoy its distinctive and delicious odor as well.
I have always kept a bottle on hand, even now since I've officially 'packed up my bar' and no longer imbibe, the one that was in progress then is now downstairs in the box with the others. OH how I miss it every so often...what a WONDERFUL flavor I might never be able to let myself savor again... <sigh>
Gee that's hard an open bottle and not allowed to imbibe, such a wonderful medicine.....not sure what it fixes but works every time for me :)
