Strange Asian Art Box

This truly has me stumped. I found this guy at a flea market and for the price, I could not pass it up. For as much as I know about Asian (Japanese) Architecture, I believe this is a Temple and pagoda...thing. with a Geisha. It is missing a piece, maybe a bell or well??? At one time it had red paint or enamel on it and it is signed Nikko? in the lower left under the temple. The temple is a box with a gilding inside and the whole thing looks like it is just a top piece to a larger box or other piece of furniture. Any thoughts? Let me know
