Im new to button collecting, so any information or resources members can point me to is very much appreciated. I apologize in advance for my novice questions.. From my searching on internet for military buttons, I'm thinking this is a Japanese Navy button:

    - 2 piece pressed brass button,
    - brass eye shank,, no foot, soldered to back
    - front displays an anchor with cherry blossom. (Style is Guilloché??)
    - mark on back is S.F in a triangle.

    Thanks all!

"S.F." in Arabic letters rather than Japanese characters ?

Yes, the SF is in Arabic letters

Why would that be ? I doubt their buttons during the war were made in an Eng. speaking country or one using this alphabet. Maybe non war yrs., if it is Japanese.

That's back to my original question is this a Japanese navy button? I don't have the experience or skill set yet to identify it so maybe it's not. Maybe it's something else. I zoomed in on that SF and it might be SE. I am attached another picture for your convenience, if you have the time that be great. Thanks so much.
