I've suspected since purchasing this pendant that it is something made of mostly 'DIY jewelry bits' from a craft store -- the largest bracket part and two middle fleur-de-lis drops especially just scream cheaply molded pot metal with a 'silvertone' plating to me. HOWEVER -- the two 'bead drops' and center 'chain tassel' do NOT -- again, to my eyes they all three not only match each other, but appear to be much more finely made and perhaps even real silver. I want to guess they were first part of an entirely different (broken?) necklace that somehow got used here, because they were handy whenever whoever assembled it as it is.

It is a longshot to ask no doubt, especially from photos, but can anybody see anything here that might fit my theory? Is it even possible to 'see' real metal vs. cheap crap in a picture? Is there a way to find out what the metal is without consulting an actual jeweler, or even if I did could they tell? OR -- does anybody recognize something about those 'good parts' suggestive of a certain style or maker of old jewelry?? How about those little black beads -- they could be (but don't really look or feel like) cheap plastic, but could also be bakelite or maybe even some variety of stone???

No matter what they actually are, I'll probably eventually disassemble this thing to re-use those three better bits together with other higher quality parts to create something wearable...I could imagine the tassel held by both bead drops then a longer section of real chain for 'em all to dangle from, at least...?? ;-) :-) :-)

I’m thinking the same as you are…the tassel and it’s counterpart beads were likely added…and the loops at ends of those beads indicate something should have been attached there….maybe a broken necklace with a Middle-Eastern looking tassel was cobbled onto the very French-looking others parts.
The chain seems unrelated to the rest of it.

The chain seen is definitely nothing -- just a length of ball chain from the hardware store that I put on it to make it harder to misplace inadvertently... <lol>

Those style necklaces were the thing in the late 70s !!

Dawnlady has a necklace very much like this one in her new offering this week. From the 1970's I have seen a lot of necklaces of this sort. They were elaborate, there was nothing low key in these pieces and a period in time sort of beauty in this piece !~

Hi AnythingObscure. Your pendant reminded me of my necklace:

      So, I posted it today.
Thanks for posting yours as I had forgotten about mine.
