I have no idea about this. 12.25” tall with a very smooth surface. The bottom is covered with old green felt. Any thoughts are welcome. Addendum: I found two others like it on Ebay and both are calling this Haitian. I asked about the provenance of the pieces and discovered that the sellers are basically going by one other that sold on Ebay some time back and Worthpoint which, in my humble opinion, is over rated and probably just takes whatever the seller has to offer in a description. All the same, I couldn't find a WP reference to any Haitian chalkware, let alone this piece. I believe it is Brower/Marwal but I am afraid to remove the green felt on the bottom lest I make a mess. Anyone else have an opinion on this? It's a fantastic piece regardless.

Andre Decembre, a famous Haitian sculptor, made this a famous example of his skills. It is call "The Lovers" and has been widely copied by others. I have see some from the Philippines for example. He also did a lot of fine sculpture. I have a small collection.

Thank you for your response. I think this is maybe why people are claiming that it is Haitian when in fact it is not because the artist you describe worked in wood. This is definitely not wood. It appears to be either find ceramic or oil painted chalkware. I’m not saying it could not be copied from one of his other pieces but it is not the same as the one you have mentioned ‘The Lovers’. Little doubt that all of this genre it’s some type of copy or emulation of his work. I’m still looking for a better answer. Peace.
