fcfoshag
(2 items)
Found this in my Mother's barn. Do not know what it is called, or what it was used for. Obviously, it has two clamps, on adjustable on the chain, and a ring to pull, or hang, it with. Any assistance identifying this object would be appreciated.
I'll guess it could be used to pull long planks of wood around a sawmill?
Cow hobbles..or cow kickers. Used to keep an animal still or from kicking
The chain links are only about 1 1/2 in long, and the ring is only about 2 in in diameter. The two comments don't seem to be valid. For the first, the item is too small. For the second, not sure how it would be secured around an animal's legs to prevent it from coming off.
Thanks for the replys
Here's some Google pictures..see for yourself..

Mine was ONLY a guess fcfoshag -- nothing more. Only thinking maybe the two hooks could grip the sides of something of varying width (depending on which link the movable hook is attached to) but reasonably uniform thickness (to fit inside the hooks) then pull on it with the ring...?
WOW! Thanks guys! My Mom was an old farm girl around Willard, OH, and I'm sure she, as well as her parents and siblings, used these when milking the cows. Growing up, I spent time in the milking barn, but never saw them used. Too young to notice I guess. I'm 76, and was just a kid when in that milking barn.
Your information is very much appreciated.
Thanks, again. Mystery Solved!
Never too old to learn something, that's why I collect and why we're all here. Welcome to CW. Hopefully at 76, you have some other interesting items to share with us..
