Yup, another rental house in my neighborhood has been 'throwing up' in the past couple days. Here's today's fresh appearance on top of the pile, an oak curio cabinet with curved glass sides and door.
Looking a little closer while sliding it in the truck reveals that it isn't anywhere near antique and only slightly better than 'discount store' furniture quality -- and the surprise, it was still half full of assorted glassware when it got dragged to the curb?! Nothing unusual amongst that stuff, but a perfectly usable set of Corningware coffee cups are worth keeping at least...?
The cabinet itself is made of real oak (though the shelves are pine instead, still solid wood) and the hardware is all contemporary. There's a nice little rectangular mirror panel at the top back (upside down in pic 4) and its two back legs (stapled on to it) got broken or pulled off, one of them was also found in the pile with it, an exact replacement(s) would be easily made.
It is currently still laying in the back of my truck, still with all the busted up glassware inside, because it turned out to have one more "bonus" once it got here for a closer look with a flashlight -- the thing is **thoroughly** infested with cockroaches. <eeek><ughhh> So after sorting the unbroken stuff out of it, it also got sprayed down (and filled with vapors of) a handy can of bug spray, that and the near-freezing night we're supposed to have tonight will likely kill those off enough to decide whether the whole thing is worth keeping, or if I just knock it apart and keep the door and side panels for their (unbroken) curved glass panels. Truth be told, I rescued one side and the door from another similar cabinet in another curb pile a week or so ago, that one was already busted to pieces for me and I just grabbed those two parts for the glass panels still left, (one of which is a simple leaded glass panel, kinda pretty) because something in the back of my mind wants to remember that curved glass panels are kinda unusual/expensive to get now...???
