A lovely zinc covered trunk from the 1870’s. Unique front latches that have no mechanisms…
Nice to come across one of these rare pieces of craftsmanship.

Thanks for the post. A really wonderful Zinc Trunk T-man, those latches were part of a major federal lawsuit Cowell vs. Sessions. Sessions held the C.A Taylor latch patents and asserted that Cowell (who was assigned J.C. Locke's latch patent) infringed on his patents.

That’s great info Drill! The latches are an unusual design so I can imagine one would have difficulty defending any variation. First time I’ve seen them. Thanks for the like and great comment. I haven’t been keeping track much lately as few trunks that meet my criteria are showing up as of late… of course I’m getting fairly picky being over my capacity!!
Great zinc trunk! I’ve only ever seen maybe two zinc trunks and never seen latches like this. Great find!
Thanks so much myoldkyhome for the comment! I come across these from time to time, usually the same style as another one I have listed. I was delighted to see this different model and style and unique latches..
Hey T- man ,I knew it was in that mess of patents I have. Happy holidays to you and family.

Thanks for the updated info Drill... amazing how you locate this -- much appreciated!!
Such an outstanding zinc covered trunk T-man!! I've never been able to come across a zinc covered.
Thanks so much Js… appreciate the comment! Interestingly enough I come across zinc trunks on occasion here in Quebec… usually a style that seems common around here — one I posted as my first. A lot of times they are painted so there are certain styles of these that are a tip off. This one however is fairly unique.
