I found this photo today. I'm not sure what kind of photo it is nor when it was made. It's in what looks like the original frame which has an old 'Emporium' sticker on the back. The frame is 9.5" by 11.5 inches. Any info appreciated.
looking at your picture the first thing that came to mind is that place must flood out so easy due location and the bends in the river and people building so close to it ....cool picture..

I was thinking if you look at the picture you posted they had all steel bridges ,,, in the link I posted the bridges are cement so when did the switch ,, might help date your picture ...later

Thanks Amare! i'll send them a msg and post any response i get. Downieville is one of my favorite little towns. the photo must be a little hard to read because Downieville has very steep slopes all over the place- making flooding not really an issue.
I don't know *at all*, but the way-cool "TV screen" mat and the font on the "Emporium" label both just scream 1950's to me...???
I can not find one car or truck in this photo?
AnythingObscure - it's very obvious to me that this is a lot older - probably 1920s, but the photo is earlier. thanks toracat - also indicative of age.
The Emporium in San Francisco opened in 1896, so this could be from around then.
Also no telephone poles! And no drive through McDonalds! haha Also still mining gold right in town!
