    Some type of wood and brass tool. I am trying to identify its use. The brass "pendulum" swings freely and if you pull the brass mechanism on the side, it releases the pendulum.

      I will give this one a try and explain why I am thinking along these lines. I believe what you have is a special use plumb bob. I say that because they are made for everything from flying a kite to bike riding to skiing. The most common one years ago was a 1935 model used as a tilt mechanism in a pinball machine. I might see this one being used by a cabinet maker or perhaps to set caster and camber in an old car front end. There you have my 2 cents. Refining it more will take some searching. Maybe my remarks here will prompt someone else's thoughts or memories.

      Definitely an odd piece...looks like an arm or something attached to the side mechanism. And the range of motion was back and forth. You can see only the 2 sides are protected by metal on the inside, possibly for overtravel.
