This tool has been in its owners family for over 100 years. It is all wood. The family historically worked in baking, milling, and carpentry.

I don't see any wear pattern on it ? Only guess would be a pie crimper?? Maybe ??
Clue is on the back..need to figure out what it says..
I'm seeing "This was made by <name> in <town> in 1840 and was in use 30 years" for the note tied on its back (?) but that doesn't shed any light on what it was used *for*...???
Right..if we can figure out who JW Blair? Was and what he was doing in 1840, maybe we can figure out what this is....
Maybe there's something under the paper ..like a stamp?
I would venture to say it is an official stamp made of wood. Picture #1 would show it in the correct position with handle upward. Removing the paper tied on is the only way to prove or disprove it.
