Cool turtle. Or is it a tortoise? Flippers, not feet!
Such a cute little brooch- the stone in the top of his shell looks almost red the way I see it- he’s lovely and really well made, even his little feet seem to have tiny claws on them like real terrapins - they happen to be such adorable creatures in real life anyway! :D

You are so smart Karen, it seems all turtle/tortoise jewelry is named a turtle, you had me checking the britannicas to see the differences and I'm still somewhat baffled! In photos the back of this gem looks rather like a tortoise, the feet more turtle-ish? Actually my fave of these animals is the Hawaiian sea turtle which is just gorgeous, somewhere I have a small painting of one we brought back from a HI vacay. Lauren yes I can see the reddish color in the round top piece of the back, which also to me looks rather like our US football :) So happy you found him cute, I thought his scalloped back shell was really pretty. Super praise as ever thank you so much
