Kay Bojesen Songbirds
Approximately 4" x 3"
I have admired these for awhile, but they were always too expensive. I was able to buy a lot of art that included these.
The Danish mice in my other post are possibly made by him.
UPDATED INFORMATION***I have contacted Kay Bojesen Denmark. The mice are not attributed to him.***
KAY BOJESEN
Kay Bojesen (15 August 1886 – 28 August 1958) was a Danish silversmith and designer.
In 1910 Bojesen completed his apprenticeship and was known as a gifted silversmith. He then traveled to Germany for vocational school in precious metals
WHY TOYS?
In 1922 he entered a toy competition with 4 toys he made. And not surprisingly he wins awards. When asked why he made toys..he explains...his son has lots of different toys, but he is heavy handed and easily destroys them.
1932 NEW LIFE
Inspired by his success with toys, Bojesen opens a basement workshop with his wife and makes toys for the next 26 years.
1950 SONGBIRDS ARE BORN
"Kay Bojesen creates the songbirds in the 1950s, but they are never put into production."
"According to legend, customers in Bojesen's shop in Copenhagen could sometimes be lucky enough to receive a little extra gift when they dropped by, and the designer is said to have given the birds away to those he was close to."
"In 2012, the songbirds are recreated on the basis of old photos from Kay Bojesen's family album and put into production."

What a great pair of birds, I like the contrasting wood colors of each. Very interesting info on the artist
Thanks...I feel that the history and background stories are what makes objects special.
I also like how simplistic, yet easily recognizable these are.
