Well maybe not, it's a 200W metal halide induction lamp and about 6 or 7 years ago this was going to be the next big thing and then industrial LED lighting appeared and it faded into obscurity. I work at an electrical wholesalers and we were sent 2 as samples and asked to fit them in the warehouse where the sparkies could see them. They were very impressive but like I said not long after LED arrived. We only just replaced them a few weeks ago and although these things have been going all our opening hours for quite a while are still the same colour and giving a high output after all this time. One of the advantages of them is there was no filament to warm the gases prior to striking so no contamination of the lamp and also immediate strike up even if having been just been switched off. I thought they were neat so asked if I could have one. Will look great in the shed!
What WAY COOL FUN this is!!! Can you share who manufactured it? I bet it'll not only look great in your shed, but *light it up* pretty well, too!! :-) :-) :-)
The importer was a NZ company and their lighting line was called Loretto. I did find a reference on the web when I got it a month ago and wanted to put it on the post but can't find it now....... I'll keep looking as it's bugging me. Also I think these were some of the first they had and there is no label on the light.
Try this!

TOO COOL, BHIFOS! Now I gotta ask this: in your opinion, would these actually be better (in any whatever way) than the LED technology that beat them out in the consumer market? I bet these are much more fun to *look at* than equivalent LED's, anyways...??? <lol>
Well considering they have been going for quite a few years with no issues probably reliability. LED harps on about the life of the LEDs but so many have failures of the drivers. Also the quality of the construction for outside use leaves a lot to be desired although mainly when sourced from a certain Asian country. Saying that a particular light from an American company who manufactures in Mexico has had big problems with both. This was a hazardous rated fitting worth a lot of money!
