So here's the pail I was referring to in the punch bowl posting. This is etched with these numbers: 07468836. I have an extreme imagination and I see several other impressions on the bottom, but it's probably from the process?? Like I feel like I saw an angel figure as well as something at first I thought looked like feather markings along a vertical image, like native American marks. But again the bottom of this pot is all kinds of wobbly, bumpy etc! I wish there was a way to show more photos at one time. Well again, I hope if you have any knowledge you will share. Honestly I haven't had much involvement from members in my posts, but I will keep trying!! Thanks.

Typical of those made in Turkey and other places in the old Ottoman Empire.

The old ottoman empire was as early as the 14th century and as late as the early 20th century...per Wikipedia

As Congcu suggested, there's many made in turkey. And quick searches reveal French versions that are listed as planter or jardinière.

In my opinion, what you have is a decorative piece. It doesn't appear to have any age or patina on it. And it looks too thin to say...boil water in..also no evidence by the bottom. Appears to brass or bronze...you can see that by the inside corrosion and the outside color. It's hard to tell from the pictures, but it appears there's a weld Seam where the bottom was attached..that may be the green ring on the inside? Just my opinion. Nice piece, enjoy it

Thanks dav2no1!! I see the patina around possible weld! And also just now seeing some markings on inner right, below the rim! Working onva smart phone while away from home is limiting to say the least! I will inspect those marks further!

This has been verified as 1800s...NOT some cheap tourist item. I dont understand where someone got a thin opinion of this!! Hahaha its almost 1/2" thick!! And NO PATINA ??? seriously? Its covered in patina...sells for $400 + depending on buyer

Thanks for the update. I question 1/2" thick? It appears thin due to the embossing being clearly shown on the inside of the piece. Normally copper is thin and stretches when hammered or a design is pressed into it. There is clearly a weld seam and it's constructed of 2 pieces. Can you explain where you got your information and if other examples are noted or contributed to a designer/maker? What is the purpose of such a decorative pail?

A piece that was for utilitarian use would not normally be so decorative. That just adds extra cost.

I have seen these types of buckets and they had a lid and were intended for storing yoghurt. The ones I saw were made in Turkey or surrounding countries.
