Those of us, who are living in the North, have a problem in winter: We can't get the key into the frozen mailbox lock. So we light our lantern, carry it out to the mailbox, hold the key in the flame for half a minute and then the key gets easily into the lock.
Sounds like you need to find a better climate !

There are worse choices. Wait till after tourist season and it gets a lot cheaper.
