I’m curious if anyone knows an area of Mexico this could have been created and a time period. I’m having difficulties finding another with a design down both edges.
I found this woven wool textile around 5-7 years ago at a second hand shop. It is wool, but has another material for the lighter areas in the center and edges. It has a nice sheen to it that made me think silk, but very well could be cotton. The lighter “white” areas have a lot of color variations in the sections. Also, there are obvious changes in due lots in the dark red colors.
It measures approximately 38” x 85.5” I love the colors and obvious skill of the maker. The fringe is in terrible condition and there is a hole, staining and corner damage.
Check out Chimayo rugs, could be a match. You have a beautiful rug.
This is a Saltillo serape from Mexico. I have collected a couple hundred of these - all with eye of gods, but this one is exceptional! the crazy border design and that dotted line repeated throughout is what makes it wonderful! a little faded, but the best ones usually are.
