sterling silver TAXCO pill box

This tiny little box is only a little over an inch wide on the hinged lid with little loop and bead catch to hold it closed. The top is decorated with a colorful textured design with green and blue variegated background with a center design of silver and brass/copper colored metals, I don't know if it is supposed to be a representation of "something" or just an abstract design. I also don't know if it is supposed to be textured, or is simply worn. Inside the lid it is stamped "TAXCO MEXICO STERLING 925" (possibly more) in a hallmark.

I don't know what to call the way its lid is crafted (there's gotta be a term for it?) and I don't have any idea how old it actually is.
