    ....Learning here. This is a 'Monitor' I've acquired at an estate sale a few months back and just now started digging into what I have since I'm learning its probably 100+ years old? I cannot find any manufacturer's ID on it, nor any patent numbers or dates on the lock. I did see another similar constructed 'Monitor' here on this site that had very similar hardware. I'm trying to put a date and/or any other info anyone can share. Thanks in advance! Like this site!

      Here are some patents that may apply to this trunk.A good guide is that it can be no older than the oldest patent dates.Many popular trunk patents were used for a number of decades. Hope this helps thanks for the post.

      The brass "key guides patent is F.W. Mix 1891." I am unable to post this patent to this site.

      The lock was made by the star lock co. patented 1869 and again 1877, the tin slat clamps clover leaf design patented 1880 by Charles Taylor, the #1 front latches cross hole design patented 1882 by Charles Taylor, the fancy tin patented sometime late 1880's to early 1890's your trunk is from around mid 1890's to early 1900's
