Restoring three trunks that I was given to for free. They're needing some major TLC and I’m beginning the initial clean up process. I'd like to find out more about them before diving in too far and to restore them back their original beauty. As much as possible, that is. The first trunk I’ve began to work on is the largest/tallest of the three. It measures 33” wide and about the size of a hay bail flipped on it’s side. It also has the number ‘4’ printed on the clasps. Making me believe that it’s a C.A. Taylor patent #4. Maybe a Taylor XX Professional Trunk? Although, this seems to much older by some the other hardware. It’s in pretty rough shape with interior only showing the exposed and weathered wood and w/o other markings to identify. Any ideas or clues to its origins?

After cleaning up the lock, I found that it’s a Eagle Lock Co. , Terryville, CT with a patent in Dec 1877.
