Can anyone tell me about this folding pocket knife or point me to a source that could help?
It was purchased by my father in Scotland in 1960 or 1961?
I have done some searching but have never seen a Jowika Solingen pocket knife like this. Also curious about the value.
Thanks.
To begin with, this is NOT where you research values as stated in the site rules. There is an appraisal link at the top of the page for values.
Next you need to understand that Solingen was totally bombed out during the war and most records of such things are gone forever. The steel in Solinger knives is some of the finest there is along with the craftsmanship that went into making them. You probably have an uphill battle finding information. It might help to join some knife collector sites and inquire there. Have you searched for Jawika Cutlery? That might yield some information. Jawika, Solingen folding knife might also produce some leads. Either way good luck.
I believe the correct spelling is Jowika as it sure brings back results from Solingen.
Thus far I have learned that this knife was actually made in Ireland as were all Jowika folding knives. Fixed blade Jowika knives were made in Solingen. Rights to make them in Ireland were given before WWII. You might get a trip to McDonalds for it if you tell them to hold the fries. Looking at what actually sells and the price isn't impressive.
Thanks for your help. I thought it might have been made in Ireland after the war. Not interested in selling, just curious. I guess I'll just pay for my Big Mac out of pocket. LOL.
