1930s Cast Iron Scottie Doorstop
I picked this up the other day along with the other doorstops. It is very detailed and both sides are done. Only markings are inside - 1 & 2, marking on each side of the 2 piece design. In my research people have attributed this doorstop to Hubley. There is no evidence that these were produced by Hubley. It does have similar eyes as the Hubley. My piece has some paint on its chest that is not original, but does add to the look.
I reached out to our Collectors Weekly friend Jscott, as he has shown us many different doorstops and cast iron pieces.
His response: " I'm not sure who made your "Sitting Scottie" and I've never been able to find out. Some say Hubley, but Hubley did not make this one. Probably National Foundry or Albany Foundry and possibly Spenser & Sons Foundry. However, I've never been able to find out."
So the maker remains a mystery. The good news is, the sold price of these doorstops are actually almost twice the price of similar Hubley doorstops.
And I wanted to mention...both this and the "scotties twins" doorstop I posted were cleaned with water and long Q tips. Then I treated them with a little oil.
Keep that good luck coming, sounds like and looks like a very desirable piece, especially when looking for one of these!
Another awesome Scottie doorstop Dave!! Always glad to help out when I can.
Thanks Scott. I hope upu don't mind that I quoted you..I wrote it up late last night. Thanks for all your knowledge and for showing us all your awesome pieces.
PhilD Thank you for the comments. I actually wasn't looking for one. I was buying some other items for our etsy store(NOWVI) from a collector that was downsizing to move. And I just saw all these doorstops and made a reasonable bundle offer.
Love this Scottie!
Thanks to everyone for living my dog and for your comments.
I've been looking for one myself for ages they seem very scare and expensive lucky you ! My Fiona won't sit still long enough to be a doorstop...lol :)
