This was my great grandfathers mantel clock. It had not been used in well over 40+ years. I recently cleaned and lubricated the mechanism, wound it up and it keeps time, chimes on the hour and the bell rings on the half hour. I did some research based on the label on the back. I believe the model name is usually listed above the manufacturer but there is nothing on the label even faintly. E.N. Welch Manufacturing made the clock prior to 1905 as it is not made from any plywood. I haven’t been able to find one like it on the internet. I did notice 2 holes on each of the bottom corners. Possibly the clock at one time had legs. Also on each side there are two holes which may indicate there was some sort of decoration attached there that has been removed. Anyone that might have information on the manufacturer, this style of clock and when it might have been made would be appreciated.

Hello KenStuff. Welcome to Collectors Weekly, Clocks.
It looks to me as though your heirloom mantel clock is called the "Sorma" from 1901
I can not be absolutely certain because not only is the clock missing feet, there should be two side ornaments. If this is a Sorma, it listed for $8.80 in 1901 which was quite pricey at the time. Adjusting for inflation, about $290 so far in 2022.
Here's an example to be found online: https://www.ebth.com/items/12658578-e-w-welch-sorma-8-day-half-hour-strike-cathedral-gong-mantel-clock?ref=hp
No doubt you can find others and judge for yourself if you think that your clock is indeed a Sorma. If so, please indicate your mystery as "Solved".

Again, welcome and thank you for sharing.

You are exactly right. The Sorma model you found is an exact match, except of course for the missing feet and side ornaments, to the clock I have. Thanks to your investigation and knowledge I now know the model, when it was made and price when new. Appreciate all your help!
