Hello everyone!!
As the CW article states, written by Ben Marks in December 2020, I do have a lot of dogs. But, believe it or not, I do have a cat in my collection as well. This is a Puss In Boots silver plated match holder from the Victorian era. It's silver plated bronze and it was made by The Derby Silver Co, Derby, Conn sometime during the 1880's. A bit of the bronze is showing through in places, but it still retains 99% of it's silver plating. He measures 6 3/4" tall and the base is 4 1/4" in diameter. There is a date scratched under the base that reads Nov. 24, 1880 something. But I cannot make out the last two digits. No detail was left out when this was made, even his boots and floral design cape are extremely detailed. This is a very rare piece and I feel extremely lucky to have this in my collection. The Derby Silver Co. was in business from 1872 until 1933 when the plant closed due to the depression.
Thanks for stopping in to have a look!!!

Nice...I like his rat belt..
Jenni,
Thanks so very much!! I too love the story of Puss In Boots and it's a very old story at that. I love this one and it's among the favorite match holders in my collection.

magnificent. Is it a match holder or a stick holder?
IT RESEMBLES THIS ENGRAVED

Thanks kivatintz!! It is a match stick holder that would have sat on a parlor table for guest to light their pipes, cigars, etc…
Yes Kivatintz, it certainly does resemble that very depiction.
THANKS SCOTT
