I couldn’t help myself when I came across this ceramic cat for sale on line.
Something about those big curls all over it including the curly tail and big eyes really appealed to me.

It measures 11.5 “ long, 6.5” wide and 10” to tips of it’s ears.
The curls seem to have been individually applied to the hollow form of the cat, then a glaze applied.

The underside has no markings whatsoever.
    Does anyone recognize this cat?

    >>>>> update 3 months after purchase <<<<<

I just had to add new picture: it won’t help solve the mystery of this ceramic cat but I was fascinated by my “real, living” cat’s spontaneous pose.
His name is Uno and I belong to him. He can be a bit jealous and possessive. He rarely gets on my kitchen counter (that I know of) but he watched me putting the ceramic cat there and making photos of it for this post.
Maybe the idea has been swimming around in his mind of a new cat in the house …..maybe he wanted to show me that he’s better than this phony cat …..I really don’t know what to make of it, but he jump on the counter a few days ago and took up a position in front of the ceramic cat- and assumed the SAME pose!

I’m baffled by Uno doing this.
Just had to share this with CW cat lovers. I’m hoping to have your thoughts on this!

Maybe the top part of a covered dish or bowl? The tops are usually what get broken, though.. Very attractive piece and it stands well on its own even if a bottom is missing.. Any marks may having been on the bottom if there was one. I've not seen one of these before.

kwqd, I had not thought of that but it does make sense that it could be the top piece of a covered dish of some sort. Frequent lifting of it to serve some sort of food would just be asking for it to get broken though since there’s no handle.
It would make a clever hiding spot for a carton of those individual servings of cat food pate.

Thank you for the loves kwqd, Dav2no1, Blammoammo, Cisum and RichmondLori…I appreciate you all!

I have several covered dishes that do not have any handle. You just have to grab what you can to lift the top off.

True…the texture of the curls would give your grip some traction when you lift it.

I keep calling it a cat but do you suppose it could be a lamb?

Looks like someone tried to dress a cat in sheeps' clothing.

Hello..Out of curiosity and that I am a lover of felines, I did some searching here and found a few of these cat bowls used for sewing items, thread..needles..Like sitting next to a sitting chair perhaps..The one sewing can just reach over.

Hi Thomas. Can you add a link to a URL for an image of a complete example? Thanks! Kevin

      Kevin, Here You go.

Go in search there and for a example type in sewing pin cat. The One I'm speaking of is from 1958. You can type in the year as well. Though different in style.
I began search on Google. I typed cat sewing dish.

lots of coils and spirals here:

TallCakes, I could browse those spiral and coil items all day…there’s something strangely interesting about them.

Cisum, thanks for your searching and that link- I saw the car sewing dish. It’s very cute-especially that little felt tongue to stick pins in (ouch!). That’s an interesting idea although I think mine is much larger than the one on that site.
Surely there’s another one out there somewhere so I have high hopes of finding an answer to my mystery cat!

He'd certainly find himself a nice quiet spot to curl up on a shelf (or somewhere) if he was in *my* house??!! :-) :-) :-) :-) :-)

I think its a cat safe to hide things under it ...smiling .cute one ...
    16. Watchsearcher Watchsearcher, 3 years ago
Apollo1001, that would make a pretty good hiding place!

Thank you, everyone, for all the loves and for taking a look at the kitty!

LaPerm is a relative recent addition to cat registries; gained championship recognition in CFA c2008.
    19. Watchsearcher Watchsearcher, 3 years ago
Thanks Eileen and TallCakes, LaPerma cats are news to me….I had no idea they existed. As I just read about them, I was very impressed that shedding is “infrequent”….that’s almost as impressive as the curls!

Uno was probably upset because he was not getting equal time.
    23. Watchsearcher Watchsearcher, 2 years ago
Thanks to all for the 21 loves and 1 like!

SEAN68, thanks for the comment…I love them both myself although Uno is the most trouble of the two. ;^)

kwqd, thanks for that insightful comment- you must have cats yourself. :^)
I’m just glad Uno hasn’t tried to knock his rival off the counter!
