    Large iron boot scraper. i think it's in the form of a Merganser, but not positive. It's almost 2 ft long and weighs a ton - as it should to keep it in place.

      Nice find!! I've seen a lot of boot scrapers, and have many in my collection. But, this is the first of it's kind I've ever seen.

      Thanks jscotto. i've been thinking and although it looks like a merganser because of the long beak and the way it sits low in the water, i think it is more likely a loon. Maybe from the days of 'On Golden Pond...'

      I wonder what the thing/part under it (hook? axle?) was for? A cool iron duck anyway, no matter what exact breed?!! :-) :-) :-)

      Good question AnythingObscure. My best guess would be that you could hook it down to make sure it doesn't move at all when scraping with it. The weight alone will do it for most folks, but hooking that would work well.
